Goshen Dam

4 MILES ROUND TRIP (2-3 hours)

You can pick up the trail to Goshen Dam approximately 1.5 miles north of Blueberry Hill on the Goshen-'Ripton Road, a few hundred yards after a red house on your right. The trail is an old dirt road that branches off of the main road and heads northeast into the woods.

This wooded trail is a gradual uphill most of the way to the Dam, making for a gentle stroll. From the dam, there are lovely views of the Sugar Hill Reservoir and surrounding mountains. Goshen Dam was built in the 40's and created the reservoir which serves as the watershed for the town of Brandon. It also provides habitat for a variety of waterfowl including mergansers, black ducks, mallards and the small, colorful woodducks. Be sure to pack your field guides and binoculars for this walk.

Return the same way or make a left at intersections #37 about 1/3 of your way back down the road. It is easy to miss if you are not paying attention. After making this turn, go a short distance, down and then up again to #35.

This is the Stewart Trail. Make a right onto this trail which is about a mile long and parallels the Goshen Road to Blueberry Hill.

To your right you will see the occasional view of the Adirondacks. You should find this trail to be fairly easy for most of the way. At intersection #9 keep going straight down the hill to the Inn. You will come out right by the pond behind the Inn.
