Most of the spring wildflowers along the woodland trails have gone to seed. The chanterelle mushrooms are poking through the moist forest floor. The Canadian Wood lily is in bloom along a exposed part of the Truck Hill Trail and is pictured above.
Roadside flowers including yarrow, ox-eye daisy, chicory, vetch, clover, and black-eyed susan are in bloom. The chanterelles mushrooms
are poking through, and the wild blueberries should be ready in a couple of weeks.
The Hogback Trail has been mowed in preparation for the Goshen Gallop coming up at the end of July.
The YCC (Youth Conservation Corps) have done a lot of work on the Oak Ridge Trail this season; it is open again for hiking. They have also spent considerable amount of time cleaning out old cellar holes as part of the centennial of the GMNF
We have 10 bluebird houses on the property. One has bluebirds nesting, 6 have tree swallows and three remain unclaimed.
Mt Horrid and Rattlesnake in the Moosalamoo region remain closed (in addition to 5 other cliffs/trails in other nearby areas) to protect peregrine falcons nesting sites. These areas will be closed from April to August, but if a falcon pair doesn't nest or if the nest is not successful,
they will be reopened. We will update this page as we learn more about their status.
Our high bush blueberries are packed with ripening berries, more then we have seen in 20 years! (Blueberries are fully ripe beginning in late July and continue throughout August. Click link below for picking information.)
